Guilfest 2012
What’s it all about? Guilfest – was the great summer live music festival based in Stoke Park, Guildford Surrey, UK. Interesting fact, Guilfest was the brainchild of Tony Scott and was started in 1992. Initially, it was known as the folk and blues festival. Incidentally, as well as being a music fan and also because Tony owned a marquee hire business, he probably saw it as a business boost as well. Moreover, Guilfest was run under his company Scotty Events Limited.
The highlight of the Summer
For many years this festival was the highlight for many music fans. Again, hosted in mid-July this festival saw some amazing live acts. Further, over the years there have been some great A-list acts. For example, acts such as Motorhead, Simple Minds, The Stranglers, Hugh Cornwell, The Damned, Marillion, The Pretenders, Blue Oyster Cult, Echo and the Bunnymen, Billy Idol, Razorlight and the list goes on and on…
In fact, my first visit to the festival was in 2004. In the first place, I was blown away by what a great festival it was. Coupled with cool T-shirt shops, there were all sorts of food stalls and alternative boutiques. Moreover, there was an amazing variety of stages and acts. Moreover, as a musician, I wanted to be part of this. Subsequently, Velvet Razor played their first Guilfest during the summer of 2005.
Guilfest is a unique festival
Firstly, what made the festival so special was that as well as the great headline acts, up-and-coming acts were also given a chance on the lower stages. Secondly, there could be opportunities for promotion to the larger stages as the years went by. In fact, though the festival was greatly loved, but because of the increasing costs of great headline acts, this has sadly pushed the event into insolvency. So the last festival outing was in 2014.
